"The Art of Marriage": Mark your calendar for February 11-12, 2011. Lawndale will be hosting "The Art of Marriage," a conference sponsored by Family Life (Dennis Rainey). Many of the principles taught in "The Weekend to Remember" will be shared during the conference.

Offering Envelopes: It's almost the end o the year and time for the 2011 offering envelopes to be picked up. They will be available starting today in the hall between the elevator and the worship center. IF you haven't been assigned a box number, please contact Katy in the church office to receive one. We encourage everyone to use their numbers even if you don't use the envelopes. Putting your number on your checks helps to ensure accuracy in your year-end contribution statements. Thank you!

Announcements: December 5, 2010

Class News
  • Thanks for another great lesson Billy. The title of next week's lesson is Why Prayer Deserves Priority. The background passage for the lesson is 1 Kings 5:1-9:9 (2 Chronicles 2:1-7:22). The lesson passages are 1 Kings 8:22-24, 27-28, 38-89, 43. Before Sunday, please take a moment to prayerfully read through the passages and prepare for the lesson.
  • We have started studying 1 Kings out of our new Learner Guide. If you haven to picked up a copy, we have plenty in the LJG room. Please only take one Learner Guide per couple. Thank you!

A Baby Changes Everything: Saturday, December 11th & Sunday, December 12th- The Annual Greensboro Christmas Spectacular! The performances times are 2pm and 6 pm on Saturday, December 11th and 4pm on Sunday, December 12. On Sundays, tickets can be purchased in the church lobby and can also be picked up at the church office during normal business hours.

Volunteers are desperately needed to help with the Holiday Shop at Joyner Elementary School, December 14-17, between 8:30am-3:00pm. All you will need to do is help the children shop. If you are available or have questions, please contact Anne Prather at Joyner Elementary- annrkai@aol.com or call her at 336-545-2020.

Bags for the Homeless: We are collecting items to make up bags to give to the homeless in December. Please bring travel size soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste and razors to the first floor collection center area by December 15th.

Three Matters of Prayer: 1) Thanksgiving: Take a few minutes and thank God for His blessings. Every good and perfect gift is from above. Let Thanksgiving be a good reminder of how God takes care of his people. 2) Feeding of the 5, 000: Ask that God's love will be evident in our community. Our desire is that when people leave our campus they say, "Isn't God good!" 3) Christmas Spectacular: Pray for our choir and musicians as they prepare. Also, pray that we will all use this event to build bridges and that the gospel message will be clear.

Ephesians 6:10-24

The Armor of God

  • Happy Belated Birthday to Lauren Holbrook on November 2nd!
  • A BIG thanks to Nathan and Ashlee Wallace for organizing, coordinating and executing the First "Finding Common Ground Operation Christmas Child Party!" We enjoyed a great night of fellowship with other LJGs, all while packing 49 shoe boxes that will reach children overseas. Please continue to pray for the children who will be receiving these boxes in the near future. Pray that they would be blessed by the boxes and that they would come to know the love of Christ.

Arvil Pennington is organizing transportation from the church. Your reservation is made when you drop off your check or money to the church office. Reservations are due by November 24.

Ephesians 6:1-9

1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3 “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”[a]

4 Fathers,[b] do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

2010 Costume Party

This past Saturday, our LJG had our 2nd Costume Party. During all of the fun, I didn't get pictures of the black-light cornhole game, the spooky food and a few of our couples. Here are some of the pictures I did manage to take...

Misty & Ethan: Super Mom & Superman. If you can't see... Misty's Super Mom costume consists of a blanket for a cape, fastened with a hair tie. She had a diaper in her pocket and a giant "S" on her shirt made out of masking tape. Love it! Ethan sat cool as a cucumber with a lady friend on each side. Izzy was sitting pretty and Ava was grabbing the "S" on his costume and trying to take off his shoes.

Ephesians 5:1-14

1Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children 2and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

Ephesians 4:17-32

17So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. 18They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. 19Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more.

20You, however, did not come to know Christ that way. 21Surely you heard of him and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. 22You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

25Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body. 26"In your anger do not sin"[a]: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27and do not give the devil a foothold. 28He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need.

Ingredients
6-8 boneless skinless chicken breasts
1 packet Good Seasons Zesty Iltalian Seasoning
1 pakage cream cheese, softened
1 can cream of mushroom soup
shredded cheddar

Preheat oven to 350. Place chicken breasts in 9x13 baking dish. Sprinkle with italian seasoning. Mix cream cheese and cream of mushroom soup in bowl and pour over chicken. Bake for 40-45 min until chicken is done. Top with desired amount of cheddar cheese and bake for another 5 min until cheese is melted. I usually serve with/over rice and a veggie.

7But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. 8This is why it[a] says:

"When he ascended on high, he led captives in his train and gave gifts to men."[b] 9(What does "he ascended" mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions[c]? 10He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.) 11It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Operation Christmas Child: A team will leave Sunday afternoon, November 28th and return to Greensboro on Wednesday afternoon, December 1st. Deposit of $25 will hold your spot. Sign up by calling the church office at 288-3824.
El-Salvador Clothing Drive: Our church is participating in a clothing drive for approximately 175 pastors and their families in El Salvador. We need clothes for all ages, adults and children, clean, with no stains or rips, sweaters and light jackets (but no winter clothes). There will be marked boxes downstairs in the collection center. These clothes will be delivered to El Salvador along with the Samaritan's Purse Christmas Shoe Boxes. Deadline for donations is next Sunday, October 10th. If you have any questions, please call Bill Bailey at 282-3270.

  • Ephesians 3:1-13: 1For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles—

    2Surely you have heard about the administration of God's grace that was given to me for you, 3that is, the mystery made known to me by revelation, as I have already written briefly. 4In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, 5which was not made known to men in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God's holy apostles and prophets. 6This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.

    7I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God's grace given me through the working of his power. 8Although I am less than the least of all God's people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, 9and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things. 10His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, 11according to his eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. 12In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence. 13I ask you, therefore, not to be discouraged because of my sufferings for you, which are your glory.

Class News

  • Thanks Nathan, for another wonderful lesson! The title of next week's lesson is God's Plan is Eternal. The background and lesson passage for next week is Epesians 1:1-14. We will be starting the new Fall Learner Guide next week. If you have not picked one up yet, we have plenty in our LJG room!
  • Welcome to our guests, Matt Crater and Dahlia Halpern! We enjoyed having you with us this morning.
  • Happy Birthday to Julia Toth, this Wednesday, September 1st!
  • Men's Bible Study: Will meet this Friday, September 3rd, at 6:30am at the Chick-fil-A on Battleground Avenue. All men are welcome!
  • September Small Group Social: If you have not had a chance to sign up for the September Small Group Social and you would like to be placed in a group, please e-mail Misty or Laura Pearman and they will add you to the list!
  • September 5: Class Lunch. Instead of going to a specific restaurant this month, we will have a picnic lunch at Bur-Mil Park. Stop by a fast food restaurant or bring your own food from home immediately after church. Bring a blanket, a football, a frisbee and come enjoy the fun! (Exact location at Bur-Mil will be e-mailed out soon!)
  • September 18: Baby shower honoring Laura & Todd Lindley! Click here for more information.
  • October 23: Class Costume Party! Time and details TBA. If you would be willing to host this even at your house, please let Laura P or Misty know ASAP! :)

Fall Semester Classes begin September 12 at 5pm: A list of classes being offered is on the cover of the Lawndale Leader and on our website. You may register on our website or sign up in the lobby beginning today!

Mission Friends, GAs, and RAs: Fall Kick-off night is Wednesday, September 1. 
Promotion Sunday in LJGs: Sunday, September 5th

Students
411: Sundays @ 6:15pm
Fusion: Wednesdays @ 6:30pm in the Chapel.
Fusion Band Auditions: Sunday, August 29th, 4:30pm in the Worship Center. Auditions for singers and musicians are open to all rising 6th-12th graders. Applications are available online under Student Ministry/Weekly Events/Fusion. They can also be picked up in the Chapel. Please fill out and return to Student Ministry no later than August 29th.
Annual Parent Meeting and Lunch: Middle School: Sunday September 12th. High School: Sunday, September 19th. Lunch will be served followed by a meeting highlighting Student Ministry events for the year ahead. Please plan to attend this very important meeting: 12:15-1:30pm in the Fellowship Hall. Registration is required and is available in the church lobby beginning today. Cost is $3 per person, maximum $12 per family.

Married Adults
Parenting 301: September 18th from 9:00am-12:00pm, Room 263. Parents with children ages 11-15 will benefit from this course. Focus will be issues facing adolescents and setting ground rules. Please call the church office at 288-3824.
Operation Outreach: Sunday, September 12th at 4pm, moved to 2nd weekend because of Labor Day, Room 263.
Weekend to Remember: Marriage retreat October 1-3. For more information please  go to this website: www.familylife.com/groups/lawndalebaptist. Our group name is Lawndale Baptist. When you register with our group, you receive 1/2 off the registration ($159/couple). This even is sponsored by Family LIfe at Four Seasons in Greensboro.
Preparation for Marriage Class: Wednesday nights, 7-8pm beginning October 6th in Room 263.
Joyner Elementary School Partnership: Please continue to bring in the items your class is collecting for this project. You may drop them off in the Worship Center Lobby.

Women's Ministry
Mentoring Matters Ladies Dinner: Thursday, September 2nd at 6:30pm. Exploring the "What and Why of Mentoring" in the lives of Faithful Women. Register in the Lobby or e-mail Donna Navey at lawndalementoring@yahoo.com.
Women of Faith Conference: November 12-13 at the Greensboro Coliseum. Go to our website, Women's ministry/Upcoming Events for more details.
MOPS: (Mothers of Preschoolers) will begin soon! Register online at www.lawndalebaptist.org. MOPS meets every 3rd Tuesday, September through May from 9-11:30am. Orientation Night is Tuesday, September 14th at 7pm in the Fellowship Hall. Registration is $55.
