Announcements: November 23, 2008

Class News
  • Thanks Jeremy, for a wonderful lesson this morning! I think it's safe to say God definitely used you to speak to us! The title of next week's lesson is When Considering Matters of Life and Death. The back ground passage for next week is 2 Samuel 21:1-24:25 (1 Chronicles 11:10-41; 20:4-8; 21:1-26). The lesson passages for this week are 2 Samuel 22:1-7; 23:1-7.
  • This coming Sunday will be our last Sunday in the Fall Study Guide. The Winter Study Guides are in the LJG room. Please be sure to pick up one per couple on Sunday!
  • Welcome back to our returning guest, Julia Toth.
  • Many of you have heard about David McManus' upcoming mission trip to the Philippines. If you would like to learn more information about his trip and how you can support him prayerfully and financially, click here. If you feel led to support David financially, please turn in all money to Matt Gardner by November 30th (this coming Sunday).
  • If you would be willing to provide breakfast during the month of December, please e-mail Melissa the date you wish to cover!

Promoter/Church News

All regular Wednesday evening activities, including supper, will take place on Tuesday, November 25. There will be no activities at the church on Wednesday November 26. The church office will be closed Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28.

Married Adults
Pre-parenting Seminar: January 17 from 9 am - Noon. An overview of what parents should expect from the preschool years to the teenage years.
Marriage Class: The Love Dare, a 10 week class in connection with the movie "Fireproof" will be offered on Sunday evenings at 5 pm beginning January 11.

Music
"The Heartbeat of Christmas": Make plans to attend this year's Christmas production put out by the choir and orchestra on Sunday, December 14 at 6 pm. Tickets are now available on Sundays or through the church office. Invite your family, friends and co-workers!

Honor or remember a loved one by giving a Christmas red poinsettia at a cost of $15. You may take your plant home after the Christmas Eve service on December 24. Special envelopes are available at the Welcome Desks and in the church office to note your personal information. Orders must be placed by Friday, December 5.

  • Welcome to our guests, Billy and Suzanne Williamson! We enjoyed having you with us this morning.
  • Many of you have heard about David McManus' upcoming mission trip to the Philippines. If you would like to learn more information about his trip and how you can support him prayerfully and financially, click here. If you feel led to support David financially, please turn in all money to Matt Gardner by November 30th.
  • Our Ladies Bible Study Group will meet tomorrow, Monday, November 17th at Ashlee Wallace's House. Come at 6:45 to enjoy fellowship and snacks. The study will start at 7 pm! It's not too late to join. For more information and directions, click here.
  • If you would be willing to provide breakfast during the month of December, please e-mail Melissa the date you wish to cover!

Samaritan's Purse Mission Trip to Boone: December 28-30. We will travel to Boone to process shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child. Cost will be $49.99 per night per room (based on 2 per room, $7 each for 3rd and 4th person) plus meals. Lunch Monday and Tuesday will be provided. A $25 deposit is due November 28. Submit your check marked "Boone Mission Trip" to the church financial office. If you have any questions, contact Arvil Pennington.

Church-Wide Chili Cook Off: Sunday, November 23 after the evening service. The activities committee will judge each entry and declare a winner. If you wish to enter your chili, have it in the CLC between 5:30-6:00pm.

Music
"The Heartbeat of Christmas": Make plans to attend this year's Christmas production put out by the choir and orchestra on Sunday, December 14th at 6pm. The story is about Dr. Robert Green, a heart surgeon who's been swallowed up by bitterness. He encounters a young boy who reveals to him the heart of Christmas. Tickets will be available beginning TODAY! Invite your friends, family and co-workers!
  • Construction workers, artists and cosmetologists are needed to help with the Christmas production. If you are interested in helping, contact Mark or Stacy at 288-3824.
Christmas Decorations: If you have any oversized or larger ornaments or an artificial Christmas tree you are no longer using, the Music and Worship Ministry would love to have it. Contact Stacy in the church office at 288-3824 or by e-mail at slmiley@lawndalebaptist.org.

Lawndale Gear: Our new selection of Lawndale Gear is available to order in the Main Lobby on Sundays and Wednesdays through November 23rd. Hats, shirts, jackets, sport and tote bags may be ordered in the colors of your choice and will be embroidered with the Lawndale logo.

Operation Christmas Child: October kicks off our annual collection of gift-filled shoe boxes for poor, sick and suffering children all around the world. Pick up an information brochure from the central lobby. We are offering a limited number of Samaritan's Purse shoe boxes. You may also use your own shoe boxes. The deadline for collection is Sunday, November 16th. (Next Sunday)

Co-Ed Adult Indoor Soccer League: The Spears Family YMCA has a recreational league open to all on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Game times are 9pm, 9:40pm & 10:20pm. The season is early December through February. Cost is $75 per person. Registration deadline is Today!

  • Ann Vaughn is collecting items for Urban Ministries. There will be marked collection boxes in the first floor elevator lobby until Wednesday, December 17. Items needed include travel size toothpaste, tissues, shampoo, toothbrushes, combs, soap and washcloths.
  • The Single Adults are collecting new or gently used stuffed animals to give to homeless children on Christmas Day. Collection boxes are located in the elevator lobby on the 2nd floor and the children's wing on the 1st floor until Christmas Eve.
  • If you are interested in leading a LifePlus Course in the Spring, please submit a brief outline and any books/materials that will be used to Curt Dean or Gary Wade no later than December 7th.
