  • Class News
  • Thanks Billy for another wonderful lesson! Way to make a comeback! :) The title of next week's lesson is How to Be Courageous. The background passage for next week is Mark 6:6b-56. The lesson passage for next week is Mark 6:35-52. Be on the lookout for notes from Billy's lesson later in the week.
  • There are plenty of dates available to bring breakfast during the months of January and February. Please take a look at the dates still needed and e-mail Melissa if you'd like to provide breakfast for one of those dates!

  • Welcome to our visitors, Ryan & Krystal (friends of Billy and Priscilla)and Erin Rierson (Lauren's sister)!
  • Men's Bible Study: Will begin meeting on Friday, January 8th at 6:30am at the Chick-fil-A in the Brassfield Shopping Center on Battleground Avenue. Please give $5 to Jeremy or Rodney to cover the cost of the book that will be used. All men are welcome!
  • Women's Bible Study: I will send out an e-mail with the start date as soon as I run it by the leaders and hostess. We will continue to meet at Ashlee Wallace's house on Monday nights at 6:45pm. The name of the study we will be doing is He Speaks to Me, by Priscilla Shirer. Study guides can be purchased at LifeWay. All women are welcome!
  • Our next class social will be January 23rd. More details to come!
Church News
  • The Church Office will be closed on Friday, January 1st. Have a Happy New Year!
  • 2010 calendars featuring the various ministries of LBC are available in the church office for $6 each.
  • There will be a called business meeting on Sunday, January 3rd following the evening service. We will vote on Deacons for 2010 and recommendations from the Nominating Committee.
Married Adults
Operation Outreach: Sunday, January 3rd at 4:00pm. Meet in room 216 for assignments.
Nearly/Newly Married Class: If you are considering marriage, planning on getting married or recently married, you will be interested in this class. Beginning on Wednesday, January 20th, we will have a 7 week class meeting from 7-8pm. We will be using a workbook called, "Preparing for Marriage" by Dennis Rainey. If you'd like to sign up, call the church office at 288-3824.

Activities
Valentine's Banquet: Tickets for the 2010 Valentine's Banquet will go on sale the first Sunday in January. The date of the event is Sunday, February 14th at 6:15pm in the CLC. Adult ticket cost is $8, children $2, and can be purchased from Jimmy Jackson. "Acts of Renewal" the husband and wife team, Jim and Carol Shore, will entertain the adults at the banquet with fun, enriching family theatrical performances and children will be dismissed to the Fellowship Hall to see a Christian magician. More information about the entertainment can be found at www.actsofrenewal.com. 


Spring Semester of LifePlus will begin on Sunday, January 10th at 5:00pm. You may sign-up for classes beginning TODAY at the LifePlus table in the foyer or register and pay online www.lawndalebaptist.org. Below is a listing of the classes offered:

Stuffed Toy Collection: The Single Adult Ministry is collecting new and gently used stuffed animals to give to homeless children for Christmas. Bring to the 1st floor collection area by Christmas Eve.

Feeding of the 5000: We will distribute 1000 boxes to families in our community on Tuesday, November 24th. Each box will contain the food items needed to prepare a Thanksgiving meal for a family of 5.

Operation Christmas Child: If for some reason, you were not able to return your shoebox by November 15th, you may still bring it to the central lobby and the team will deliver them to Boone, NC on November 29th.

The Feeding of the 5000: We are seeing to collect enough food to fill 1000 boxes with a meal that will feed 5 people per box. We will distribute the boxes to families in our community on Tuesday, November 24th. It isn't too late to donate food: Green Beans (50 oz. can), Yams (40-50 oz. can), & Rice (32 oz. bag)!

Women of all ages (6th grade and older) will be inspired by breathtaking table decorations, music and conversation of the upcoming season. Tables will be set and decorated by women of our church with their own china, glasses, and silverware on which you will be served tea sandwiches, dessert, coffee, tea or cocoa! Be sure to bring your camera! You may purchase tickets in the main lobby or online until Tuesday, November 10th ($5 each). Please sign up in the lobby to receive a complimentary ticket if you would enjoy setting and hosting a table! Limited childcare will be available by reservation only (babies through 10 years). Fathercare is encouraged! If you will need childcare, please call Jennifer Wilson in the church office at 288-3824. Join us for this delightful event that launches the holiday season.

Operation Christmas Child: Shoeboxes must be returned to the church by November 15th. We still have a few slots remaining for our trip to process shoeboxes in Boon on November 30-December 2. We will travel to Boone on November 29th. Your reservation deposit of $25 holds your place. Mark your check "Boone Mission Trip" and make it payable to LBC. Your only cost will be a motel rate of $49.99 (up to 4 per room) and your meals. 

Preschool Choir: Join us on Sundays at 5:00pm in Rooms 146 (3s), 148 (4s), and 150 (5K) as we prepare for our Christmas performance!

Feeding the 5000: On four consecutive Sundays, we are seeking to collect enough food to fill 1000 boxes with a meal that will feed 5 people per box. We will distribute the boxes to families in our community on Tuesday, November 24th.
  • TODAY- Donation for hams ($8 each)
  • November 1st- Green Beans (50 oz. can)
  • November 8th- Yams (40-50 oz. can)
  • November 15th- Bag of rice (32 oz.)
Quarterly Business Meeting: TONIGHT following the evening service to vote on the proposed changes to church by-laws.

Angel Tree Ministry of Prison Fellowship: Angel Tree works by connecting parents in prison with their children through the delivery of Christmas gifts. We will need volunteers to "adopt" a child and purchase gifts for the child. Starting November 2nd, a special "Angel" Christmas tree will be located in the main lobby with the names of children to be adopted. Please prayerfully consider including a child in your Christmas gift giving this year. For more information, please contact Maryann Kingsmill at 540-0605.

Church Workday: The Grounds Committee is calling everyone to help spruce up our campus on Saturday, November 14th from 8:30am-11:30am. Please bring your rakes, pruners, shovels, gloves, wheelbarrows or whatever tool you most prefer using.

Registration and requested information is due back to the church office no later than Friday, September 25th. Children's Bible Drill: Children in 4th-6th grades meet Sundays from 6:15-7:15pm in Room 163. A parent is asked to attend the last fifteen minutes of each session from 7:00pm-7:15pm.

Married Adults

Mission Friends Service Project: The Mission Friends are collecting baby items to fill diaper bags for the Greensboro Pregnancy Care Center for those in need. Please bring baby lotion, burp cloths, diapers, wipes, etc. to the bin in the collection area on the lower level by the snack machines. Bags will be packed on September 30th to be donated to the GPCC.

Operation Christmas Child Trip: Reserve November 30th-December 2nd on your calendar to assist in processing shoebox gifts for OCC. We will travel to Boone on Sunday afternoon and are limited to 25 people. Make your reservations by submitting a check for $25/person to the financial office in an envelope marked "Boone Mission Trip, OCC, November 30-December2." Your only cost will be a discount hotel and some meals.


Greensboro Life Chain 2009: On Sunday, October 4th from 2:30-3:30pm, the Greensboro Life Chain 2009 will form along Battleground Avenue. For more information, call Polly Dodson at 375-5395. The National Life Chain is the largest, peaceful, prayerful, pro-life, public witness in the world. More than 1300 cities across the U.S. and Canada are expected to participate this year.

Johnny M. Hunt Men's Conference: "Triple Play-The Trilogy of Men's Struggles," will be on Friday, October 2nd and Saturday October 3rd at Green Street Baptist Church (303 N. Mission Friends Service Project: The Mission Friends are collecting baby items to fill diaper bags for the Greensboro Pregnancy Care Center for those in need. Please bring baby lotion, burp cloths, diapers, wipes, etc. to the bin in the collection area on the lower level by the snack machines. Bags will be packed on September 30th to be donated to the GPCC.

Class News

  • Thanks Nathan for another great lesson! The title of next week's lesson is God is Just. The background passage for next week is Psalm 9:1-20. The lesson passage for next week is Psalm 9:1-16. We will continue working out of the new Fall Learner Guide. If you have not had a chance to pick up your copy, there are plenty of extras in the LJG room!
  • There is one breakfast date still available, October 4th. If you are interested in bringing breakfast on this day, please let Melissa know.
  • Men's Bible Study: Will meet this Friday, September 11th at 6:30am at the Chick-fil-A in the Brassfield Shopping Center. All men are welcome!
  • Women's Bible Study: Will begin MOnday, September 14th at 6:45pm at Ashlee Wallace's House. Donna Navey will be leading this course. All women are welcome!
  • Upcoming Dates: 
  1. September 12: Baby shower honoring Mark & Denise Simpson (From the Walking Together LJG). The shower will be at Amy Styer's House from 10am-12pm (1216 Alderman Drive, Greensboro/27408). If you plan to attend, please call her so she can plan accordingly (253-1407). Mark & Denise are registered at Babies R Us and Target.

  3. September 26: Todd & Laura's Wedding! Todd and Laura have extended an invitation to our LJG. The wedding is Saturday, September 26th at 4pm at the Tanglewood Park Arboretum (4061 Clemmons Road, Clemmons, NC). A reception will follow the service in the Ballroom.

Parent/Child Dedication: Will be on Sunday, October 4th during both morning services. Letters have been sent to parents who have a new baby. Registration and requested information is due back to the church office no later than Friday, September 25th. Johnny M. Hunt Men's Conference: "Triple Play- The Trilogy of Men's Struggles," will be on Friday, October 2nd and Saturday, October 3rd at Green Street Baptist Church (303 N. Rotary Drive/High Point, 27262). $59 registration fee includes Friday night steak dinner, snacks workbook and CD's of the sessions. Register online www.greenstreet.org. Operation Christmas Child Trip: Reserve November 30th-December 2nd on your calendar to assist in processing shoe box gifts for OCC. We will travel to Boone on Sunday afternoon and are limited to 25 people. Make your reservations by submitting a check for $25/person to the financial office in an envelope marked "Boone Mission Trip, Operation Christmas Child, November 30-December 2." Your only cost will be a discount hotel and some meals.
